Professional Development for Individual Artists

Forms Required: Professional Development for Individual Artists Grant Application
Eligibility: Individual artists, who are at least eighteen years old and legal residents of West Virginia for at least one year before the application deadline. Emerging and professional artists are eligible to apply. Applicants creating work under the supervision of a master artist or instructor will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Non-profit WV arts organizations that are expanding their services to better meet the needs of artists are eligible to apply.
Funding Level: Up to 75% for the first year of funding and 50% for subsequent years. Maximum funding is $2500 for individual artist projects and $5000 for arts organization projects.
Matching Requirements: 25% for the first year of funding and 50% for subsequent years.
Letter of Intent Required: None required
Program purpose: To acknowledge the significant contribution that artists make to the quality of life in local communities and our region by supporting the ability of artists to enhance, expand, or improve their own work and advancing that work to a higher creative and professional level.
Program description: Emerging and professional artists are
eligible to apply for support to expand or improve their own work or to share
their expertise with others. Organizations are eligible to apply for support
to create, expand or improve programs that support individual artists. This
can include the following:
• Self-designed apprenticeships (Joint application must be filed by master
and apprentice)
• Collaborations with peers or community organizations
• New equipment (excluding computers except where it is the primary tool
used)
• Materials to pursue new departures in artists’ work
• Costs of professional development workshops (travel, registration fees,
meals and lodging)
• Materials used for educational and community settings
Special Instructions: Special guidelines and application forms are issued annually. Contact staff for additional information. Work samples are required for a complete application. To be considered eligible, all costs must be documented.
