In 1970, the Cinmar projectile point was dredged up along with mammoth remains off the Virginia Capes. Carbon dating indicated that this stone tool is around 22,760 years old, raising questions regarding its early American maker. This and other suggested pre-Clovis tools found in the Middle Atlantic area are the basis for a new framework for Virginia prehistory that includes possible ties to the Old World.
