Come celebrate the Sixteenth Annual West Virginia History Day on Thursday, February 23, 2012. The event will be held at the West Virginia State Capitol Complex during the 2nd session of the 80th West Virginia Legislature. Other co-sponsors of the event are Friends of Culture and History, Mining Your History Foundation, Preservation Alliance of West Virginia, Inc., West Virginia Association of Museums, West Virginia Historical Society, West Virginia Humanities Council, and West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
Please make note of these important dates:
December 31, 2011. – Deadline for submission of the History Hero Nomination Form. Must be postmarked or hand-delivered to Archives and History by that date. Note: The Archives and History Library will be closed on December 31, so December 30 is the effective deadline for hand delivering nominations for History Hero.
A list of History Hero recipients from previous years is available at http://www.wvculture.org/history/historyheroalpha.html.
January 31, 2012. – Deadline for submission of the Display Space Reservation Form.
Interactive PDFs of these forms are available on the Archives and History Web site:

You may submit the completed PDF of the Display Space Reservation Form electronically by e-mail. Because several people who tried to do so last year ended up sending us blank forms, we suggest that you save the completed form to your computer first and then e-mail it as an attachment. The online History Hero Nomination Form cannot be submitted electronically and must be printed out, signed, and delivered by hand or by regular mail via the Post Office or other postal carrier.
In completing the Display Space Reservation Form, remember to mark if you need electricity or WiFi. The availability of these resources is limited to certain areas of the capitol rotunda, and assignments are made on a first come, first served basis. We encourage participants to consider displays that do not require access to one of the few outlets in the display areas.
Also regarding the Display Space Reservation Form, in addition to organization name, we must have the name, complete mailing address, and phone number for your organization’s contact person. We are required to provide this information to General Services before History Day.
We will send notification of receipt of these forms to the contact person. If you do not hear from us within two weeks of sending your form(s), contact us immediately!
If you have questions, please contact Mary Johnson or Joe Geiger by e-mail or at (304) 558-0230.
We look forward to a great History Day in 2012!
