West Virginia History Day

Come celebrate the Twenty-fifth Annual West Virginia History Day on Monday, March 1, 2021. West Virginia History Day is officially designated by the West Virginia Archives and History Commission as a special day to recognize the state's rich and varied history. Other co-sponsors of the event are Mining Your History Foundation, Preservation Alliance of West Virginia, Inc., West Virginia Association of Museums, West Virginia Historical Society, West Virginia Humanities Council, and West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History.

IMPORTANT: We have received word from the Office of the Speaker that the decision has been made to cancel all activities in the Upper House and Senate rotundas as well as the Lower Rotunda for the 2021 legislative session. Therefore, there will be no History Day displays this year. At present, the History Hero ceremony is still scheduled to take place at the Culture Center.

Please make note of this important date:

December 31, 2020. - Deadline for submission of the History Hero Nomination Form. Must be postmarked by that date. If delivering to Archives and History in person, the deadline for hand-delivery is Thursday, December 31, by 12:00 p.m.

The online History Hero Nomination Form cannot be submitted electronically and must be printed out, signed, and delivered by hand or by regular mail via the Post Office or other postal carrier.

We will send notification of receipt of this form to the contact person. It will be sent by e-mail if the contact person provided an e-mail address and by regular mail if an e-mail address is not given. If you do not hear from us within two weeks of sending your form, contact us immediately. That likely means we have not received any form from you!
