Mark Joseph Haverland Jr.
|Mark Joseph Haverland Jr. was born on July 25, 1947, in Robertsburg, Putnam County, West Virginia, the son of Mark and Georgiana Stover Haverland. He had a sister and a brother. Mark attended Poca High School where he served as a class officer in his Freshman year and graduated with the class of 1967. He worked as a camera operator for station WCHS-TV before being drafted into the army in 1968. He was a member of Raymond City Community Church and Nitoca Junior Odd Fellows.|
Mark was sent to Vietnam in April of 1969 and while there served with H Troop, 17th Cavalry, 198th Brigade. In Vietnam for one month and 11 days, Sgt. Mark Haverland was killed on May 21, 1969, in Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam.
The body of Sgt. Mark J. Haverland was returned to the United States and was interred in Buffalo Memorial Park in Putnam County. His name is carved on Panel 24W, Line 66, of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C.
