Romey Earl Hughart Jr.
Romey Earl Hughart Jr. was born December 14, 1944, at Summersville, West Virginia, to Romey and Irene Chapman Hughart. He had a sister and a brother.
Romey attended Nicholas County High School and was graduated from Ravenswood High School graduating in 1962. He graduated from Beckley Junior College in 1964 and attended Glenville State College before entering the Army in July of 1965.
He received basic training at Fort Gordon in Georgia after which he was sent to Fort Monroe in Virginia. On March 3, 1966, he was assigned to Company C of the 716th Battalion of the Military Police of Saigon, South Vietnam. He began his tour of duty March 12.
According to the military report, on August 11, 1966, while training on a Saigon rifle range, he was killed when a hostile explosive device detonated. A news account noted that he was the second Jackson Countian to die in Vietnam
The body of Romey Earl Hughart Jr. was returned to the United States and interred in the Groves Cemetery in Summersville, West Virginia.
